In this blog post, I intend to explain the history behind Vapaus Precycled and go through why a used bike could be the most reasonable choice for you.
In many ways, the year 2021 was quite exceptional in the bicycle market, and I believe the challenges in bike supply will continue affecting us in 2022.
The demand for bikes was record-breaking and many models ran out of stock from bikes stores around the world in 2021. Full-suspension e-bikes and gravel bikes, for example, were some of the categories that were in high demand. Supply challenges were mostly due to Covid-19-related issues, like the lack of components and containers, or the shutdowns of factories. The lack of availability of some bikes most certainly remains a challenge during this year as well.
Benefit bike contracts always have an expiration date: either after the period initially agreed upon with the leasing partner, or sometimes earlier - as employees can also redeem or return their bike before the period ends. Some of our benefit bikes therefore return to Vapaus, which is what the Precycled business is based on: we take time to check their condition, which enables us to re-offer them to the employees of our corporate customers.
Precycled bikes are delivered directly from our stock and include a 12-month warranty. There is also a possibility to get an optional extended warranty or a cancellation coverage for the benefit - just like for any new bike. The difference between Precycled and new bikes is of course that these bikes come second-hand, meaning that there are some marks and signs of wear. But no worries: we check each Precycled bike and make sure that they are fully functional.
We lease the bikes with at least a 12-months warranty and a possibility for additional coverage options so you can ride worry-free.
The best thing about getting a used bike as a benefit bike is its climate-friendly effect compared to purchasing a new product: you can give a new life to a used bike. A bike’s lifespan is longer than you think, and with regular maintenance, bikes aged even up to 2-3 years are still rideable for a very long time.
At the moment, all the returned bikes that we are offering are less than one year old, meaning that the bikes are basically good as new. And since their price tags are lower than those of new ones, you are also saving money.
